If they pledged that, they still don't understand how to win elections. That won't inspire new folks on the left to register to vote, and the independents in the middle (and even some anti-Trump conservatives like me) don't really care. I actually think the ballroom makes some sense in terms of hosting dinners for foreign leaders. Now, did he go about it the right way? Probably not... just like the massive "don't look at my small hands" american flag on the north lawn looks just gaudy (when I saw it 2 weeks ago while in town).

@Horace It is going to take a lot to convince me that interventionist politics are of a past era. They are still very much alive.

DEI storms. Probably like half as windy, but because the first line on their storm resume is their minority orientation, they still get a sticker.

I remember as a kid going on holiday to France, and after what must have been a good year they were selling off bottles of red for about 20 cents a pop. They just had little plastic stoppers instead of corks. My dad thought he'd died and gone to heaven. I was only about 14, but I seem to remember it being pretty drinkable.

I agree with Dalio about 60% of the population being useless. Where I suspect we disagree is the X and Y axis…

@Mik said in Newsom is the best they have to offer?: Could you possibly vote for a man who admitted he hid in a bottle of tequila while his state suffered? Much better to vote for somebody who would never admit to doing something like that.

I believe Exxon is currently at #12. Would've been cool to see it be the only green (heh) company left.

I destroyed the entire Instant Pot company with a single review of their garbage air fryer. Be careful. Once you've killed, it marks your very soul.

It's a bit like when people split up with some dreadful partner only to hook up with a partner who everybody but them can see is equally dreadful but in a completely different way.

Doesn’t matter, in fact I don’t think anyone here even cares where SCOTUS stands on the issue. SCOTUS has never been the target of the ads.

I purchased windshield insurance on my Subaru - because I'd gone through 3 windshields on my last one. It's expired and the windshield is intact. Any day now.... My first house had a warranty with it - and it came in handy when the pump on the heating system went out on the third day I was in the house. It was -10 real temp outside, and the house temperature dipped to the low 50s. When i called into the warranty company, they tried to suggest it wasn't an emergency; however, I convinced them that they were mistaken - and all was taken care of in prompt fashion. Speaking of furnace issues - my nephew once had an issue with his newly installed furnace. The contractor told him "let this be a lesson to you" which ultimately turned out to be a suboptimal choice of words since my nephew was close friends with someone known in mob circles as the "enforcer". A short conversation between the contractor with a couple of representatives of said family friend, and all was resolved.

Reminds me of scraps of manuscripts of unpublished materials suspected to have been left by Mozart or Chopin or Beethoven that got turned up in libraries or private archives every now and then. Those are usually celebrated rather than derided. Not sure why Harper Lee's leftover should be any different.

The blame on Zuckerberg seems misplaced. No one forces anyone to use Facebook.

I started taking a magnesium pill before bed to relax a tad more, and maybe it's placebo but I feel like my sleep and dreams are much deeper, especially the 2nd half of the night.
